We have a racecourse determined! The 2023 course will be 3.5k long and start at the ARC docks, rowing through the I-35 bridge and finishing just past the island - no big turn in the basin this year.  The turns are all gradual and there are lots of great spectator locations on the bridges, near the start, at Festival Beach Park, and on the boardwalk.   This is all planned but as with any outdoor sport, adverse weather may impact the racecourse.

Course Map

10.13.23

  • Standard registration closes Monday 10/16 at 10pm CDT.  Late registration starts shortly after that and closes on 10/23 at 10pm CDT.  Late registrations will be allowed at the venue including day of regisrations.
  • the water way:  The recent weather has been kind to us and broken up a lot of the fanwort.  We have also have welcomed the return of Coots to feast on the weeds further clearing up things.  There are still patches present but today we have a clear and safe race course that is useable.   We’re waiting just a bit longer to fully determine the precise placement of the start and finish line.
  • We have decided to remove the 2 races per athlete cap.  Upon request of some of the coaches and the possibility of a shorter race course we did not feel the need to keep that cap.  We are working on making that change in the regatta set up in RC.
  • Reminder that we followed USRowing example and have a mandatory volunteer from each competing team.  The guidelines are 4-6 hours and no that does not have to be 1 person for a whole 4 to 6 hours.  Some locations such as start and finish lines need the whole shift but we have a lot of opportunity for 1 or 2 hour shifts.  We are happy to work with your team to make this happen.  I will be sending out a google form to registered people to gather information on scheduling this volunteer.  So please look for that.
  • the event list is roughly what it will be however the event timing is always influx until registration is closed and we can set the schedule.

9.14.23

Regatta Packet and be found here.

9.1.23

The course is planned to be 4k without the turn.  We have multiple contingency plans in place to address the multiple environmental factors that could impact race day.  At this time we do not anticipate needing them.

In 2022 we called off the race 30+ days beforehand yet on race day we had actually had a significantly improved waterway and could have offered a safe and quality racecourse. The plant overgrowth is a constantly shifting situation and we cannot predict this environmental factor. We do however believe we have the ability to plan a safe race course for you to race.

7.17.23

Entry Fees

We have made a variety of adjustments to Pumpkinhead operations what have resulted in increased costs.  These adjustments include moving the regatta to Sunday for less conjested water way, hiring water patrol from APD to help with recreational traffic, and inceasing parking solutions.  These increased operation costs have resulted in an increase to the entry fees in order to cover most of the regatta costs.

Late Fees

Late fees will now be a flat $50 increase rather than doubling the standard fee as we have done before.

Volunteer Policy

We are following USRowng's example and implimenting a volunteer policy:  All teams are required to have one volunteer per team to work a shift. Please click here for the USRowing Volunteer Policy.
