Exceptions to the RCA Rules of Racing

2.3 CATEGORIES OF ROWERS & PROOF OF AGE AND IDENTITY

  • There are no age classifications in university rowing, there are only varsity (open and lightweight), junior varsity (no weight-restricted events) and novice events (no weight-restricted events). This is consistent with the CURA Playing Regulations. s C.1.1. where it says “C.1.1 The Canadian University Rowing Championship (CURC) will be an open championship, i.e., there are no age categories as set out in the RCA Rules of Racing 2.3.
  • All participants must be student athletes registered at their institution and on the roster for their respective team. The Control Commission will check athletes who present their documentation that proves their identification and that they are a current student of the institution they are representing. Athletes must bring their Student ID with them to control commission.

2.5 COXSWAINS WEIGHTS

  • Coxswains will not be weighed in at this event. This event is intended as a warm-up event for crews that have just completed their respective training camps and selection processes. The weighing of coxswains is not expected to make a significant impact to the fairness of this event but will add significant additional organization issues for the hosting committee.

2.6 WEIGHING OF COXSWAINS

  • See 2.5. Coxswains will not be weighed in at this event.

 

2.11 WEIGHING OF ATHLETES IN WEIGHT RESTRICTED EVENTS

  • Weigh ins for weight-restricted events shall occur in accordance with the RCA rules of racing, except that a weight allowance of 2.0 kg shall be made for both men’s and women’s events. We do not have access to calibrated trade scales, but will have scales that have been checked against those at the University of Guelph. Scales shall be open from 6:00 AM – 7:30 for women and 6:00 – 7:40 for men. Athletes will only need to weigh in once. 1 - 2 hours and 30 minutes before the first lightweight event for each.

4.2 STRETCHES OF WATER – STANDARD COURSE

  • Current water levels allow for a full 2000 metre course. In the event of rapid water level changes between now and the event, the course shall be shortened for safety reasons. The course shall be buoyed with 3 full lines, with each 250 metre mark identified by a red buoy.
