JENSEN POINT PARK
PARKING
There will be street parking around the Burton Loop and some parking available on a first come, first served basis at Camp Burton. Carpooling is HIGHLY encouraged. This is a residential neighborhood, please keep driveways clear and be mindful of yards and landscaping. Please do not park in front of mailboxes or on drainage pipes. It is suggested that drivers also take care to note the ditches when parking along the roadway, some are hidden by overgrowth. We also ask that you remind your teams and supporters that their respectful behavior in the early morning hours is much appreciated. For your safety and the safety of regatta and non-regatta drivers on the loop please walk against traffic so that oncoming drivers (and you) can see one another.
SPECTATING
You can use the regatta QR codes to navigate to the Time Team website for the schedule and results. You will probably need binoculars to see the boats as they come down the course until the last 500 meters or so. The finish line will be visible from the point. Please be aware of your impact on the point and vegetation. Please refrain from creating scramble paths up the eroding side of the hill.
LAUNCHING
The launching area will be on the interior beach of Jensen Point. Crews are expected to launch with their bows pointed north and will cross the park boat ramp on their way to the warm up area. Use caution when crossing the ramp, it is a notorious skeg killer.
Boats shall enter the launch area stern first unless otherwise instructed by regatta staff. There may be congestion or a long wait to launch, especially during recovery of other races. Crews should bring their own slings (and be prepared to remove them from the launch area when they launch) if they do not want to hold the boat while waiting. Crews should plan to tie in after moving away from the launching area.
WARM UP AREA
The warm up area is a loop on the north shore of the inner harbor. We do not recommend that boats enter into the Quartermaster Marina area for warm up. There will be one launch supervising the warm up area.
RACE COURSE
Please see the map, buoy locations are approximate due to tidal fluctuations. The four permanent orange buoys will be in the center of the eight lanes with four lanes on either side. There will be additional outer lane buoys to mark the outside of Lane 8 and Lane 1, they will be placed at the 500, 1000, and 1500.
LANDING
Crews will land as space, wind, and tide allows on the east beach of Jensen Point. Crews are not allowed to land on the area of the private beach immediately south of the public beach. The private beach is marked by a sign. Crews in need of assistance with beach landing should listen to the beach volunteer or their coach if they are unsure of how to land. In the case of high winds a VIRC coach will be available to assist with landings. Crews are expected to land and be off the beach within two minutes of landing.
APPROPRIATE FOOTWEAR
Jensen Point is a classic rocky PNW shoreline that is home to a variety of sea life with sharp shells and has also been known to accumulate sharp debris after high tides. Rowers should wear appropriate shoes for beach launching. We recommend footwear that is easily removable, but that also has a strap since the sand further out sometimes eats flip flops and slides.
