We look forward to welcome you to the 2024 RowOn Championship Regatta!

The RowOn Championships is an annual event for athletes representing clubs in Ontario and beyond. The main objective of the regatta is to crown provincial champions in multiple categories across 12 boat classes, and to recognize athletes, coaches, and clubs by providing a quality race experience that is aligned with the Athlete Development model and development pathway for rowing in Ontario.

Row Ontario is committed to delivering a fun and safe regatta and, as such, we recognize the importance of having experienced safety boat drivers on the course during training and racing. We are asking each participating Club to provide at least one volunteer safety boat driver. Volunteer shifts will be approximately 5.5 hours in length (7am-12:30pm, or 12:30pm-6pm), and volunteers must possess a valid Pleasure Craft Operators Card and be able to assist a crew on the water, should the need arise.

Volunteers will receive lunch and thank you swag. Clubs will receive a $25 credit (per volunteer safety boat driver, per shift) towards club entry fees. Please contact Kate Savage at [email protected] to sign up and ensure your Club receives the credit.

NEW FOR 2024

  • Event Divisions - There will be one event per gender per boat class, with all ages racing together within the one event. This is similar to the way the 1x events were run in previous years.

  • Progression Format - All events will follow a Time Trial to Seeded Final format.

    • Athletes will be placed into finals based on a collective ranking of all trial results for the event, regardless of age or weight category, to provide an opportunity for rowers to race others of like speed.

    • Finals will be run in reverse order. The number of finals will be dependent on the number of entries for all events, with consideration of the overall race schedule. Every effort will be made to give all crews a final for each event.

  • New events & categories - In addition to a new event structure and progression system for 2024, this year’s Championships will also offer new race opportunities for U15 and Para athletes.

    • U15 1x races over 1000m – In an effort to promote and support more developmentally appropriate race opportunities for young rowers, the U15 1x races will be held over a 1000m distance. The U15 1x Time Trials will take place at the end of the day on Saturday, and finals will take place midday on Sunday.

    • Mixed Inclusion 2x In order to expand race opportunities for para athletes, Row Ontario has introduced the Inclusion 2x to all 2024 regattas. The Inclusion 2x is growing in popularity, as it allows a para athlete to race with a non-para athlete in a crew boat, when they might not otherwise have a para crew boat option. This is being offered as a mixed category, but single-gender entries are welcome as exhibition entries, where a club does not have a mixed-gender option.
