The 25th Annual Head of the Rock Regatta

Sunday, October 10th, 2010

The Rockford Rowing Club and the YMCA of the Rock River Valley are proud to host this year's event in Rockford, IL. For 25 years the Rock River has provided a great venue for our guests and rowers. The event is sanctioned by US Rowing and is open to rowers at all levels including high school, collegiate and club.

As we celebrate our 25th Anniversary a couple of thoughts come to mind. It all started with 2 teams going for bragging rights as to who could beat who. As the event has evolved we have hosted over 80 different Teams including International Teams.

Over 90% of our participants were not even born when this event started. Talk about sustainable! This is all due to the dedicated members of the Rockford Rowing Club and to the 50-60 Teams that participate in the event. We thank you and want you to continue to enjoy this event.

This year we have added a few new items:

  • We will be a WI-FI Hot Spot for Saturday and Sunday.
  • We have secured the REGATTA CAM with more power to provide you streaming video and audio of the event. This can be viewed at; www.mystateline.com. Tell your friends, parents and relatives that you will be live on the internet.
  • We will be posting results on a special web page immediately after the event. Website will be in registration packets.
  • Our Go Green Team continues to improve our preservation of the environment. You will notice new trash containers specially marked for your recyclables.

Robert W. Baird, Inc. is our prime sponsor this year. Their generous sponsorship and support helps make this event possible. Robert W. Baird, Inc., a Midwestern-based investment and financial planning company, provides a very informative website, which we invite you to browse: www.rwbaird.com.

A portion of our proceeds will be contributed directly to the YMCA Strong Kids program. The YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign is the match that ignites the imagination. The YMCA provides funds into the Rockford community through programs like the Community Outreach School Age Center and Black/Hispanic Achievers, Leaders in Training and Environmental Education at Camp Winnebago, Site-Based Mentoring with Big Brothers Big Sisters, and the Y-Assist Program. The impact the YMCA is making today will result in a better future tomorrow.

The Head of the Rock Oar Guide is an accumulation of the clubs oar colors of the most frequent visitors to our event. This year's poster will feature or 25th Anniversary Logo and will be a collector's item. Special thanks to www.oarspotter.com. Please visit their site to make sure your oar colors are up to date.

Safety is our first concern at the Head of the Rock, and we will be well prepared with our First Aid Tent and Safety boats provided by our friends at the Ski Broncs water-ski show team. Several First Responders will be located along the course with Automated External Defibrillators, (AED), provided by Philips Healthcare. Each First Responder is also certified in CPR. We also would like to thank Swedish American Hospital EMS Department, the Rockford Fire Department, and ATS Ambulance Services for their time and efforts in making this a safe event.

A special thanks to all of the Rockford Rowing Club members, volunteers, local businesses, the City of Rockford, Rockford Park District, Winnebago County Sheriff's Office, and the YMCA of the Rock River Valley for helping make this event possible.

Have a great time and we look forward to seeing you at this year's event!

Ya Gotta Regatta!!
