3rd Annual Charleston Head Race!
"The Charleston Regatta" and/or "Head of the Ashley" was the original concept for a scenic and hospitable head race in the '90s. After a few hard years of low attendance and poor water conditions, the event was abandoned. In 2008 the idea was reintroduced, with new coaches at the College of Charleston, and renewed interest grew in the community for a rowing regatta. Since then, the Charleston Community Rowing Club has taken over as the host for this event. The conditions on the Ashley River are not always favorable, with brackish water and tidal currents that can help or hurt you, but we are determined to share our beautiful venue with you. Dophins, otters and manatees have all been spotted by rowers already in 2012. Also, we have changed our regatta weekend to accommodate as many as possible and hope you will join us!
