Charleston Head Race Registration is available through www.RegattaCentral.com and closes October 20th.
Entry Deadline: All boat entries must be received by Saturday, August 20, 2012. Late entries will be subject to space availability through October 24th.
Registration will be at BrittleBank Park on Friday, October 26th from 5-7pm & Saturday, October 27th from 6-10am. All clubs and individual rowers must register on site and drop off waivers and/or entry fees at this time. Lightweights will need to weigh-in Friday night.
**There will be a $5 all-you-can-eat Pasta Dinner after Registration on Friday night, from 6-8pm. No other place in Charleston is that cheap to feed your rowers on a Friday night! Picnic style, so bring something to sit on. Pay at the "door" but RSVP would be nice so we make enough. We are happy to make local suggestions as well, but cannot guarantee restaurant availability.
Waivers: Please use the standard U S Rowing Waiver form online.
Bow Numbers: Each crew shall carry a bow number, to be supplied at Registration.
Coaches/Coxswains Meeting: 7:00 am by the registration area. At least one representative from each club should attend. All crews will be responsible for the information delivered at the meeting, regardless of attendance. A course map will be available at the meeting.
Foot Release Gear: Where the feet of the competitor are held by foot gear affixed to the stretcher of the boat, the design of such foot gear shall provide for the quick release of the competitors feet in the case of capsize, without the use of hands. Such design may consist of Velcro or pull strings at the heels. All boats will be checked for such appropriate foot gear, if such foot gear is not present, at all seats, that boat will be prohibited from competing.
Launching: Please limit the number of assistants to two members per boat. There will be ONE call to launch prior to each event and Launch Officials at the dock to insure all boats launch on time.
HOTSEATING: There must be a minimum of 45 minutes between events for competitors and boats. **If you need an event rescheduled, let me know and I will try to work it out. **
Awards: Medals will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each event.
Parking: Security for trailers parked overnight at the BrittleBank Park will be provided upon request. Please let us know ahead of time so security can be arranged from the time of your arrival. When pulling into the park, trailers will park on the left and personal vehicles and team vans on the right (on the playground side of BrittleBank Park).
Concessions: Chick-fil-a, pasta salad, and refreshments will be available for sale at the Charleston Crew tent.
Tents: Teams are encouraged to bring their tents to set up in the park alongside the Ashley River. Pets are also welcome. There is also an "off leash" dog area at the far side of the park.
The age/skill categories are as follows:
(a) Junior: A Junior is a competitor who in the current calendar year does not attain the age of 19, or who is and has been continuously enrolled in secondary school as a full time student seeking a diploma. A competitor thus ceases to be a Junior after December 31 of the year of his or her 18th birthday, or of the year in which he or she completes the 12th grade of secondary school, having been a full-time student, whichever is later.
(b) Master: A Master is a competitor who has attained or will attain the age of 21 during the current calendar year. A competitors age is determined as of December 31 of the current calendar year, rounded down to the nearest whole number. A competitor thus becomes a Master on January 1 of the year of his or her 21st birthday. A Masters crew shall be comprised exclusively of Masters rowers, but the coxswain need not be a Master. The age category of a Masters crew shall bedetermined by the average age of the rowers in the crew,rounded down to the nearest whole number. The age of acoxswain shall not be counted.
(c) A Veteran is a competitor who has attained or will attain the age of 60 during the current calendar year.
(d) Novice shall be a coxswain or rower whose initialcompetition within that same discipline has been in the previous12 months of the date of the regatta.Masters events will be handicapped as per US Rowing.
Lightweight Men shall be no more than 165 lbs, Lightweight Women shall be no more than 135 lbs.
