Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships

RULES & RACE FORMAT

The Canadian Indoor Rowing Championships is sanctioned by Rowing Canada Aviron, Row Ontario & Concept 2.

The sanctioning by Concept 2 allows competitors who meet a time standard for a travel stipend to compete at the FISA World Indoor Rowing Championships in Long Beach, California.

CIRC follows the Canadian Rules of Racing as it pertains to indoor racing format.

Race Format:   All races will be held on 32 connected lanes on new Concept 2 Model D Ergometers using PM5 monitors.  Results will be displayed on enhanced performance monitors and connected to a large overhead screen placed in the centre of the arena.  The screens may not be visible to all competitors and are largely for the benefit of spectators. Age and Category Definitions of Competitors

Junior HS Novice
Age 13, 14 or 15 to December 31 2019. Must be born in 2004 or later and must be enrolled in High School. 
If you are turning 16 in 2019 you must row U17.
Must be in their first year of rowing   This race is for novice athletes and the distance of the race is 1000m

Under 17
Must be 16 years or under until December 31, 2019. Must be born in 2003 or later. 
If you are turning 17 in 2019 you must row U19.

Under 19
Must be 18 or under until December 31 2019 and enrolled in high school.  Must be born in 2001 or later.
If you are turning 19 in 2019 you must row U23 or open.

Under 23
Under age 23. Must be 22 or less up to an including December 31 2019. Must be born in 1997 or later.
If you are turning 23 in 2019 you must row Open.

Open
Open to all ages

Para -Adaptive
Refer to the FISA Adaptive Rowing Classifications used by Concept 2 
and select the statement that best applies to your Para Adaptive rowing ability.  

Coxswain
Racing / training experience limited to role of coxswain having coxed a
rowing race in a sanctioned regatta at least once during the 2018 regatta season.
There are no age or weight restrictions.

University
Registered in a Full Time Program at a recognized Canadian or U.S. University or College

Parent / Offspring
Must be legal guardian or biologically related as per categories listed
Any combination of father/son, mother/son, father/daughter, mother/daughter, or grandparent

Lightweight
Male maximum weight of 75 kg  (Weigh scales are in metric)
Female maximum weight of  61 kg

Masters
Must be 30 years of age or older on Race Day
Age is as of Race Day and determines Race Category
Medals will be awarded within 10 year age categories based on raw scores in the Masters and Senior Masters Events. 
Medals will be awarded within 5 year age categories based on raw scores in the Veteran Masters Events. 
Medals will be awarded in both the open weight and li
ghtweight divisions. 

Go the Distance Race

This race is a special event open to all participants at the end of the day.  All entry fees  ($30) will be donated to charity.  The race will be a four (4) minute race.  Winners will be determined by the number of metres pulled in that timeframe.  From all participants in this race, by random draw one competitor will win a new Concept 2 Ergometer. 

REFUND POLICY 

Report race withdrawals to [email protected] by Entry Deadline date of 29-January 23:59 EST.  Any race withdrawal or scratch made after January 29 will not be refunded.  If you are unable to participate due to a medical reason, a signed doctor's note must be sent to [email protected] by 3-February before a refund will be considered.
