Regattas would not be possible without the help of dedicated, hard working volunteers. From checking in athletes at the Registration table to cleaning up the beach post-racing to battling the shoreline breakers as boat handlers, we need volunteers for a myriad of tasks. We encourage everyone to join in on the fun and help make this inaugural regatta a roaring success!

Check-in / Registration each day – 5 hours (2 volunteers needed)
Be the first point of contact for athletes and help ensure a smooth start to their race day.

Responsibilities include:

  • Assisting athletes with check-in and having them sign waivers, if required
  • Last minute registration through Regatta Central for walk-ons.
  • Distributing bow numbers and race materials
  • Answering questions and directing athletes to the appropriate areas

This role sets the tone for the event and helps everything run efficiently from the start.

Literature and T-Shirt Distribution – 6 hours total / 2 shifts available:
Shift 1: 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM
Shift 2: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
(1 volunteer needed per shift)

Help manage event literature, T-shirt distribution and sales at the registration/check-in area.

Responsibilities include:

  • Handing out event literature and T-shirts to participants
  • Selling additional shirts, if needed
  • Assisting with general check-in tasks as needed

This is a great role for someone who enjoys interacting with athletes and helping keep things organized at the front table.

Control Commission for Endurance – 6 hours (3 volunteers needed)
Support the referees by helping ensure all boats and athletes are race-ready at the beach launch site.

Responsibilities include:

  • Checking boats for proper bow markers and ensuring athletes are wearing their assigned numbers
  • Answering athlete questions and offering assistance as needed
  • Helping athletes launch and return safely with all of their equipment

This role plays a key part in maintaining fairness, safety, and efficiency on race day.

Launch Drivers for each day – 5 hours (3–4 volunteers needed)
We’re looking for volunteers who are comfortable operating a motorboat and can support race officials on the water.

Responsibilities include:

  • Safely operating a motorboat for 4–5 hours during the event
  • Assisting referees with positioning, observation, and any on-water needs

Boating experience is preferred, and a steady hand on the water helps ensure a smooth and well-run race.

Greeters (2 volunteers needed per day)
Help create a welcoming and informative environment for athletes, spectators, and the general public.

  • Before racing begins, be present at the check-in area and beachfront to greet participants and visitors
  • During the races, circulate among the spectators and general public to offer assistance and answer questions
  • Provide support to athletes, families, and guests as needed
  • Collect informal feedback on the event experience to help us improve future regattas

Greeters are the friendly faces of the event—your presence helps ensure everyone feels informed and appreciated.

First Aid / Medical Support – 5 hours per day (2 volunteers needed each day)
We are seeking volunteers—ideally trained medical professionals—to provide basic first aid and support during the event.

Responsibilities include:

  • Administering basic first aid as needed
  • Assisting referees and first responders in the event of an incident
  • Providing care and coordination until professional medical personnel (EMTs or ambulance) arrive

Your presence will help ensure a safe and responsive environment for all participants and spectators.

Clean-Up – 30 minutes (1 volunteer needed)
Help us leave the beach and launch area better than we found it.

At the end of each race day, walk through the beach and launch zones to:

  • Collect any trash or debris
  • Gather any lost or left-behind items
  • Ensure the area is clean and ready for public use

This short but important task helps us respect the environment and maintain good community relations.

Boat Unloading – 2 hours (2 volunteers needed)
Assist athletes and boat vendors with unloading and staging equipment at the start of each day.

Responsibilities include:

  • Helping transfer boats from vehicles or trailers to the designated staging area on the beach
  • Providing general support to ensure the process is smooth, safe, and efficient

This role is key to helping participants get set up and ready to race.

Boat Loading – 2 hours (2 volunteers needed)
Support athletes and boat vendors at the end of the race day by assisting with equipment breakdown and loading.

Responsibilities include:

  • Helping move boats from the beach staging area to vehicles or trailers
  • Providing general assistance to ensure the loading process is safe and efficient

Your help ensures a smooth and organized end to each day’s event.

Timing – 5 hours (3 volunteers needed)
Support the referees by helping accurately time the start and finish of all five races.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating as a team of three to record start and finish times for each race
  • Ensuring accuracy and consistency in all race timing
  • Communicating clearly with referees and fellow timers throughout the event

All three volunteers will work together on each race to ensure reliable and verified results. This is a great role for those who are detail-oriented and enjoy working as part of a focused team.

Computer/ Timing Results – 5 hours (2 volunteers needed)
Help ensure race results are accurately shared with participants and the public.

Responsibilities include:

  • Uploading official race times provided by the timing team
  • Posting results on the OSS website and, if possible, submitting to Row2K
  • Providing printed copies of the results to the Runner for posting at the beach venue and the Yarmouth Recreation Sailing Center

This role is ideal for detail-oriented volunteers who are comfortable using a computer and supporting timely race-day communication.

Awards & Trophies – 2 hours (2 volunteers needed)
Help ensure a smooth and celebratory awards presentation at the conclusion of racing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collecting the names of race winners and providing them to the MC for announcements
  • Coordinating with winning crews and gathering them at the designated time and location
  • Assisting with the overall organization and flow of the awards ceremony

This role is perfect for those who enjoy creating a positive and memorable experience for participants.
