Sturgeon Bay Maritime Regatta

RULES AND ELIGIBILITY:

The Regatta rules will be governed by the current U.S. Rowing Association Rules of Rowing as amended.

The following additional local Regatta rules will also apply:

1.  Entrants who arrive early may practice on the established rowing course and practice areas between 7:30 am and 4:30 pm on July 27, 2012. All rowers will stay out of the clearly marked navigable channel with the exception of crossing the channel at designated crossing points to the designated practice areas.

2.  All entrants must launch and retrieve their boats from the designated launch and retrieve area on Memorial Drive (see map of launch and retrieve area).

3.  All rowers, while on the water, must adhere to the directions given, at any time, to rowers by U.S. Coast Guard Patrol vessels, and Regatta Control Launches. All rowers must adhere to the local published traffic pattern which will be handed out at the rules meeting.

4.  All scratches must be reported to the Regatta Director’s desk no later than one hour before any heat or final race.

5.  A scratch fee of $35 will be administered for scratches on or after Wednesday, July 25th, 2012.

6.  Bow numbers for each boat will be required. It will be your responsibility to supply your own bow numbers. Crews will not be allowed on the water without a bow number.

7.  Bow balls; every boat must have a bow ball.

8.  Coxswains will not be weighed.

9.  Teams must check in at registration to pick up their regatta packets.  Registration will take place from 6:30 – 7:30 am on July 28th at the Regatta Director’s Tent on Memorial Drive.  Coaches or single team representatives must check in for the entire team.  Please have only 1 team representative check in for each team.

10. All official final results will be posted at the Race Results Board located at the Regatta Director’s Tent on Memorial Drive.

11. The Sturgeon Bay Maritime Regatta Cup will be awarded in accordance with the following Sturgeon Bay Maritime Regatta, Tully Point System Rules:

In order for a club to be to be eligible to win the cup trophy, a club must have at least one entrant boat in each of the following final four race groupings: (singles), (pairs or doubles), (fours or quads), and (eights+), which is to say that a club must have at least one boat that qualifies in a final race which is crewed by one, two, four, or eight crewmembers, regardless of gender.  If a club does not qualify at least one boat, men’s or women’s, in each of the above four groupings of classifications, then the club will be ineligible to win a cup trophy.

12. Points will be awarded to qualified clubs in the following manner. First place finish: five (5) points. Second place finish four (4) points, Third place finish: three (3) points. Fourth place finish: two (2) points. Fifth place finish: one (1) point.  Clubs that fulfill the requirements in paragraph 11 and have the most points will win the trophy.

13. All final race entrants who finish in first, second, or third place, will each receive commemorative medals. In order for an entrant to receive a medal, there must be at least two entrants in each final class race.

14. In the event that the Regatta Director deems it necessary to group more than one classification, by age, together in a final race, then that race will be conducted as a handicapped race, and awards will be based on net total times.
