  • Intro to Rowing - Session I

Take our three-week, six-class introduction to the sport of rowing and find out what the Charles River and Community Rowing have to offer. The class teaches participants the basics of sweep rowing beginning in our training catamarans - stable training barges. Rowers learn the basic stroke, commands, how to carry oars, and more. Rowers who complete Learn to Row may then move on to Novice Sweeps, where they will begin rowing in 8 person rowing shells.
NOTE: This class has a suggested pre-requisite that is fun and easy! We strongly recommend you take advantage of a FREE drop in Drive Row Studio class prior to starting or within your first four classes. The RowStudio is a fun, flexible, land based rowing class that introduces rowers and non-rowers alike to rowing technique, our "jargon", and the basic movements and body positions. Facilities Fee 2018

While CRI does not have memberships or membership dues - everyone who comes through the door is a part of our community - we ask that each participant, youth and adult, pay our facilities fee. This year, to simplify registration and to save everyone a few dollars, we have combined the facility fee (in 2017 it was $144) and the new boat fee (in 2017 it was $75) into one, and in 2018 the facilities fee is $189, $30 less than the fees in 2017. The facility fee is paid once per rowing season/calendar year allows us to maintain our fleet, the boathouse and keep the building open and available to rowers seven days a week. CRI rowers who have paid their facility fee have yearlong access to the locker rooms, weight room, spin bikes and ergs. Rowers with their own boat may use the docks for launching when car topping their boat in for a row. The 2018 Facilities Fee includes what use to be our 'New Boat Fee'.

The Triple-P, now in its 4th year, takes lessons from prior seasons to optimize work-to-return on fitness over the winter. With last years return to the training philosophy that proved so successful initially we again saw an average increase in tests near 13% for those who completed all 3 cycles. The program uses exciting and current training methods, monitoring and self reporting. With this information we are able to track improvements, assign custom goals and assess each persons needs. With a gold medal staff coming to the table this year, we are looking forward to using our brains to achieve record-breaking fitness and walk away with a better understanding of muscle recruitment and biomechanics. Any questions can be emailed to harsheka@communityrowing.org

  • Competitive Novice Girls Winter Training

The major focus of winter training is to build upon the fitness, skills, mobility and stamina that we began to build during the fall in September, from the beginning of the 2017-2018 rowing season. The novice girls team will devote 2 sessions per week toward rowing-specific aerobic conditioning using the Concept 2 Indoor rowing ergometers. The other 2 practice sessions per week will be devoted to general fitness conditioning, largely through circuit-type & strength training, mobility work, stair-climbing, spin bikes and assorted fitness exercises assigned. Rowing is quite simple ... the more fit an athlete becomes the greater her potential for extraordinary performance.
The winter practice time schedule may continue two weeks longer based on weather.
